LONDON—According to a list published in the Daily Telegraph, Chuck Norris is among the most influential conservatives in the United States. The London-based newspaper and Web site ranked the martial artist No. 71, placing him above Department of Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, former presidential candidate Pat Buchanan, Fox News host Bill O’Reilly, Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and former U.S. Secretary of State Henry Kissinger.

In a recent column on WorldNetDaily.com, the conservative Web site that hosts columns by Norris, the martial arts legend flexed his political muscles by throwing his weight behind former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, who’s vying for the Republican nomination for the 2008 presidential election.

Noting Huckabee’s humble beginnings, work ethic and outdoorsman credentials—he’s an avid fisherman, hunter and National Rifle Association member—Norris said: “Mike’s a committed husband and father. He’s always prioritized his family before politics. Mike has also faced unique adversity, from helping a young wife endure the trials of spinal cancer to aiding the victims of Hurricane Katrina as the governor of Arkansas. He has a heart for helping and will fight for the causes of average citizens. He’s known for having a compassionate heart, genuinely caring for all people.”

Some of the key positions that Norris and Huckabee agree on are revamping health care, implementing a fair tax, creating more choices for education, stopping illegal immigration, winning the War on Terror, saving marriage, protecting the right to life and achieving energy independence.
